The Starved Rock Historical and Educational Foundation is a not-for-profit organization, established in 1991 and dedicated to the preservation of the area’s natural heritage and advancement of educational programming at Starved Rock and Matthiessen State Parks.

The Foundation as a volunteer organization owns, manages, and operates the Le Rocher Gift Store located inside the Starved Rock Visitor Center next to the front desk. All proceeds from purchases made at the Le Rocher Gift Store stay inside of the park to help assist park staff and volunteers with program presentations, special events, educational exhibits, and displays, and park improvements.

Books for all ages encompassing a plethura of topics can be found inside the gift store. Readers and collectors both can enjoy the adventure of finding an uncommon book on geology, local history, trees, mammals, birds, reptiles, insects, and more! Bird enthusiasts can pick up a pair of binoculars while parents and grandparents can peruse the sale table for some of our favorite children’s books.

The Trailheads Gift Store located by the visitor center restrooms is owned and operated by the Starved Rock Lodge and offers t-shirts, mugs, beverages, snacks, and other items.
